Kumbh Mela stampede kills dozens in northern India

Report & Video by Mark Morris

At least 30 people have been killed in a stampede in India, during the world’s largest religious festival Kumbh Mela.

It is reported that a footbridge at a train station in the Indian city of Allahabad collapsed, prompting panic.

Sunday, when the accident happened, was the most auspicious day of Kumbh Mela which happens every 12 years.

Tens of millions of pilgrims journey to the small northern city, over a period of nearly two months.

The head of the festival’s organising committee has resigned in the wake of the crush.
